Architectural Specifications for Fiberglass Flagpoles

Part 1 - General
Provide a flagpole of fiberglass and polyester as distributed in the United States
by Atlantic Fiberglass Products, Inc. The flagpole shall be manufactured of a 65/35
ratio of fiberglass and polyester with the fiberglass roving aligned in the vertical
plane. The resulting axial tensile strength should exceed 50,000 p.s.i. and a
wind loading capacity of 120 M.P.H. unflagged.
The flagpole shall have a true entasis taper design. Flagpoles 20 feet, or 30 feet
in length shall have a butt diameter of 4.5 inches in diameter tapering to 2 inches
at the top. Flagpoles 33, 35 or 40 feet in length shall have a butt diameter of 5.25
inches tapering to 2.5 inches at the top. Flagpoles of 50-60 feet shall have a butt
diameter of 7 inches tapering to 2.5 inches at top. Ground sleeve poles 20, 25 feet
shall have a butt diameter of 4.5 inches tapering to 2 inches at top. GS poles of 30
and 35 feet shall have a butt diameter of 5.25 inches tapering to 2.5 inches at the top.
Flagpole weight (by length) shall be as follows:
20 feet 30.8 lb.
25 feet 37.4 lb.
30 feet 44.0 lb.
33 feet 61.6 lb.
35 feet 65.5 lb.
40 feet 74.8 lb.
50 feet 198.0 lb.
60 feet 231.0 lb.
The finish shall be of precast, special white color
gelcoat, providing a glossy, weather resistant surface finish. the flagpole
shall have a heavy duty hinged ground attachment with anchor rods to be cast in concrete
or a ground sleeve mounting system.
Part 2 - Manufacturing Standards
Provide each flagpole as a complete unit, including fittings, accessories, bases and
anchorage devices. Flagpoles should be constructed in one piece. If more than
one piece is necessary, provide snug-fitting precision joints with self-aligning, internal
splicing sleeve arrangement for weather-tight field joints. Hardware, external and
internal, shall be high quality Swedish Steel, either stainless or galvanized (hot dipped
zinc).
Part 3 - Acceptable Manufacturers
Subject to compliance with requirements, provide products of one of the following:

Part 4 - Flagpole Accessories
Provide flagpole with elliptical or onion shaped finial of gold weather resistant
Plexiglas. Provide revolving truck for all flagpoles, both internal or external
halyard systems. Provide winching device and all necessary hardware, chrome plated
or nylon snaps, and weight collars for internal halyard models. Provide halyard
cleats for all external halyard models. Provide polyester high strength halyards for
all flagpole assemblies.
